Have you retrofitted your windows yet?

Under the order from the government, aluminium rivets fitted on casement windows must be replaced with stainless steel rivets. It is applicable to casement windows with such fittings in all residential units (HDB and private homes), except those located on the lowest level of the building.

"The homeowners may be held liable if a window in their unit falls, as it is their responsibility to ensure that their windows are maintained in good condition." quoted from HDB Website.

The deadline for homeowners to comply with this requirement is 30 September 2005. However for homeowners who are late, the BCA said it "will consider withholding enforcement action for the time being on a case-by-case basis".
